Our History

The Historical Society was founded in 1959 . We acquired the former Rangeley Trust Building on Main St. from the Town of Rangeley in 1980.
The building, built in 1906 and listed on the Registry of National Historic Sites,
was the region's first brick building and for a time served as the Town Office and Jail.
The museum featuring a wide variety of interesting family, hotel and camp, transportation, "Gilded Age" and other miscellaneous historical topics sharing the proud legacy of this great community.
Recently, our Board of Directors voted to change the name of the former "Main Street Museum" to the
Rangeley History Museum.
